The impact of the pandemic, the global wholesale energy crisis and concern at rising inflation have all contributed to a lack of willingness by many firms to proceed with capital expenditure projects. Shenton Group’s response to shifting market pressures was to offer its customers a fully funded solution to cover the cost of its technology and services – but without the need for upfront capital outlay. For its customers, significant operational, energy resilience and cost reduction benefits are achieved – without an impact on cash reserves.

To achieve its ambitions, Shenton Group recognised the need for a partnership with a specialist financing expert.

Shenton Group recognise Capitas Finance offer market-leading and broad financial products. Since the partnership commenced in 2020, Capitas has worked with Shenton Group so that financed options are now proposed alongside the majority of new ‘direct to end customer’ Capex proposals. This simple comparison allows customers to understand the benefits of spreading the cost of payments from day one – and over the course of the lifetime of the agreement.

Partner benefits

Capitas and Shenton Group have jointly developed an ‘Energy as a Service’ (EaaS) model. EaaS, which can be deemed ‘off balance sheet’, which allows Shenton Group to expand its service offering and differentiate itself from competitors. An EaaS model enables Shenton Group to establish longer-term recurring revenue relationships with its customers rather than ‘one-off’ sales transactions.

Whilst accelerating the sales cycle and improved conversion rates are two of the biggest advantages of partnering with Capitas, there are many other benefits of the partnership. Capitas continue to work with the team providing finance training and develop tools to support sales quotations. Capitas’ energy financing specialists have supported the Shenton Group team with marketing and the customer experience associated with project finance. Such is the depth of the partnership between Capitas and Shenton Group, the two companies joined forces for a leading industry trade show to highlight to potential customers the different financing options available.

Power back-up in practice

As an example of how the partnership between Capitas Finance and Shenton Group works in practice, Shenton Group has recently completed a project that provides back-up generation to a leading national logistics firm. The company provides critical services for key NHS operations throughout the UK.

The back-up power solution ensures the customer and the NHS, always have access to essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other resources whenever required, without any over-reliance upon the grid. Capitas Finance structured a competitive short-term funding option to tie-in with the customer’s contractual obligations to the site, with potential for a future multi-site rollout.
