Asset & structured finance

How we structure finance for complex projects

Every facility we arrange is built around the project: what is being bought, when it is delivered, and how it earns its keep.

How we structure a transaction

Seven ways of structuring an investment. Projects can involve more than one.

  • Leasingusage-based structures aligned to technology lifecycle and operational flexibility
  • Hire purchaseownership structures aligned to asset life, utilisation and long-term operational value
  • Sale and leasebackreleasing capital tied up in existing operational assets while preserving operational use
  • Structured financetailored solutions supporting phased, complex or multi-supplier investment projects
  • Interim Finance Facility (IFF)supporting build-phase and staged delivery projects while preserving working capital during implementation
  • Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS)operational energy infrastructure aligned to realised savings and performance outcomes
  • Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)long-term energy supply structures designed to provide price certainty, reduce upfront capital investment and align energy costs to operational usage

Common structuring challenges

The situations that typically bring clients to us.

  • Multiple suppliers and phased procurement
  • Project delivery timelines
  • Deferred operational commencement
  • Preserving bank facilities and liquidity
  • Aligning investment to operational cashflow
  • Cross-group or multi-entity structures
  • Large-scale infrastructure investment
  • Operational continuity during transformation

Typical investment areas

The kinds of investment these structures usually fund.

  • Multi-site operational upgrades
  • Infrastructure investment
  • Technology transformation
  • Engineering capability expansion
  • Workplace modernisation
  • Business-critical equipment investment

Example project structures

How a facility comes together in practice.

  • Multi-site equipment rollout

    The project
    A multi-site operator replacing business-critical equipment across 40 sites over 18 months.
    How it was structured
One hire purchase facility drawn down in phases as each site completed, covering several suppliers under a single set of documents.
    The outcome
The rollout was funded at the pace of the programme, and existing bank facilities were left untouched.
  • Onsite generation with a deferred start

    The project
A manufacturer installing onsite generation with a nine-month build before the asset produced anything.
    How it was structured
An interim finance facility through construction, refinanced into a long-term structure once the asset was commissioned.
    The outcome
Repayments began when the asset began generating, not when the order was placed.
  • Releasing value from owned assets

    The project
An engineering business expanding capacity without taking on new borrowing.
    How it was structured
A sale and leaseback of plant already owned, releasing capital and repaid against the revenue the expansion generates.
    The outcome
The expansion was funded from assets already sitting on the balance sheet.

Most structures start with a conversation about the project, not a form.

The two ways in

Structured finance is one of them. Energy projects is the other, and the same team answers both.

Energy projects

Funding for energy efficiency, clean technology and onsite generation schemes.
